According to a report from the Intercept’s Ryan Grim and Max Ufberg, former Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin was compelled to intercede when Donald Trump proposed appointing his daughter Ivanka to go up the World Bank.
The report notes that when the opening took place in January of 2019, Trump noticed it as a possibility to advertise his designer daughter.
“As the White House moved to pick its new chief, one title very pricey to the Trump’s coronary heart stored floating round: his daughter Ivanka Trump,” the stories states whereas noting that rumors of the appointment had floated about on the time, with Ivanka demurring and telling reporters she was “joyful” advising her dad within the White House.
As the Intercept is now reporting, “…two sources, not licensed to talk publicly, inform The Intercept the discuss of Ivanka on the helm went far past the realm of Beltway chatter: Trump very a lot needed Ivanka as World Bank president, and it was Mnuchin who truly blocked her ascent to the management function.”
According to Grim and Ufberg, “Mnuchin usually positioned himself between the president and what the Treasury secretary noticed as colossally counterproductive strikes. His time as a Hollywood producer — making him a consultant of the set whose approval Trump craved — gave him affect that others within the administration lacked.”
The report provides, noting that Ivanka did have a hand in choosing the person who did take the spot, former Under Secretary of the Treasury for International Affairs David Malpass.
